HTC as we all know is a smartphone specialist and here comes another feather in their hat. The HTC Sensation is way ahead of the competition by not compromising on anything from the screen to the chipset. The smartphone race is now in the dual core range and all the leading brands have released their dual core products. HTC comes with a bang with the HTC Sensation. With the features on the paper, the HTC Sensation is surely the product of the year. It leaves behind all the competitors with its super fast processor.
The HTC Sensation is definitely meant to be the king of the smartphones. HTC rocked the Android industry with its Desire, and now it is here again to rock the Android dual core industry. There are various features that take the phone industry to a whole new level. There are already many reviews that we have seen about this phone, but this will give a clear outline of what to expect from the phone. HTC Sensation is till date one of the best HTC phones.
Build and Construction
The HTC Sensation has the looks of a normal touchscreen phone. The looks of the phone are very simple and very neat. The classy look of the phone is due to the metal plate that runs across the phone. The screen is perfectly flat, but it may seem concave because of the curved structure of the phone. Keeping the phone simple and elegant seems to be the main aim for the designers of the phone. HTC Sensation measures 126.1 x 65.4 x 11.3 mm which is not something unusual. The weight of the phone falls on the heavy side and it is 148 gms.
The front of HTC Sensation has the screen with typical Android buttons below the screen. Instead of the physical buttons, the HTC Sensation has been given capacitive touch keys to blend with the style of the phone. There are four touch keys overall and each of them is for a purpose. The left button is the Home key, the next is the options key, the next is the back key and the last one is the search key. Above the screen are the proximity and ambient sensors on left side of the earpiece. On the right side of the earpiece, we have the secondary camera for video call and a small status LED. The right side of the phone is plain and just has the design work. The top of the HTC Sensation has the screen lock button on the right side and a 3.5mm jack on the right side. The left side of the phone has the volume rocker towards the top and an uncovered micro USB slot towards the bottom. The micro USB slot also doubles as the charger port. The bottom has the mouthpiece and an opening to pop out the back cover. The back of the phone is classy with three separate colors. A metal strip runs across the middle and it is separated by matte rubber plastic strips on the either side. The top one is a light grey one and the one below the metal strip is dark. The back also features a 8MP camera with the LED flash and loud speaker on the either side.
The 4.3″inch display does not seem to fit the features of the phone that well. In a phone of this standard, we definitely expect a much better display. The big display has a very good qHD resolution of 540×960 pixels. The Gorilla glass protects the display from all sorts of scratches.
Though HTC seem to have given their everything in their HTC Sensation, they have come with a phone that has a few drawbacks. The back cover of the phone is fitted with the antennas. This causes some problems. When the phone is held and the fingers touch the area near the camera and speaker, the phone loses the Wi-Fi signal. When the cover is removed, the phone completely loses its Wi-Fi signal. When the back cover is removed, the 1520mAh battery is revealed. Thankfully, the micro SD card slot is hot swappable though the SIM Card slot is well hidden under the battery.
Features and Specifications
HTC Sensation runs on a dual core processor that clocks up to 1.2GHz. It is from Snapdragon. The CPU combines with Adreno 220 GPU for better graphics and detailing of the display. The S-LCD screen is quite good in terms of sharpness and clarity. It fails to impress on the brightness and contrast terms though. Simply put, there have been better displays than the one on the HTC Sensation. The internal storage is sufficiently big with the enormous 1GB on board capacity. The super fast processor is superbly complemented by a whooping 768MB RAM and all the apps run with ease and grace on this beauty. The micro SD Card supports up to 32GB.
Android OS & HTC Sense UI
HTC have tied up with Android yet again and have come out with flying colors again. The HTC Sense UI 3.0 is a great improvement over its predecessor and that adds eye candy. It comes with Android Gingerbread 2.3 out of the box. The HTC Sense has completely modified the Gingerbread interface. The new look interface for the lockscreen is something quite interesting and innovative. There are six different lockscreens available and each of them is more and more appealing. The customizability is amazing and the interface is just great. With the Sense UI 3.0 and Android Gingerbread 2.3, HTC Sensation has gone a long way above its competitors.
The HTC Sensation comes with a 8MP camera at the back. The camera is quite powerful because of the dual LED flash and it is able to shoot images with resolution of 3264×2448 pixels. HTC Sensation has an intelligently designed camera interface to make optimum use of the space. Everything regarding the options is kept to the right side. With touch focus, the HTC Sensation has great photographic skills. However, the camera shutter button is greatly missed. The 8MP camera is good, but not good enough like the ones on Samsung Galaxy II and LG Optimus 2X. The video recording is quite good too. It can record videos with resolutions up to 1080p. These super clear videos are recorded with a frame rate of 30fps.
Music of HTC Sensation is superb and the music player gets more improvements thanks to the HTC Sense UI 3.0. The music player has much more options and the tabbed music organizer makes it very easy to arrange the songs. The now playing part itself has the cover flow navigation and that is great to navigate the songs. The audio quality of the phone is quite amazing and there is no doubt that it is a smart music phone. The FM Radio with RDS is a great addition to such a high end phone. The image gallery has got a new look making the photo albums look very pleasing and appealing. The video player is quite efficient too. It has the ability to play DivX videos out of the box.
HTC Sensation has not been reprieved of any of the connectivity features. Everything like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, GPS with A-GPS is seen here. There are a couple of Email apps – one is the default Android client and the other is the HTC Mail that connects all the inboxes into one. The HSDPA speeds are quite amazing and it offers 14.4MBPS for downloads and 5.76MBPS for uploads. There are connectivity issues when the back of the phone is held and that is because of the fact that the Antenna that is placed in the back cover.
