Sony ICS Update
Earlier this year, the manufacturers had explained how difficult it was for them to update their phones to the latest Android 4.0 – Ice Cream Sandwich, but Samsung had already rolled out first of their ICS Update series for their flagship Galaxy S2. Samsung had mentioned that they would update their top range phones in Q1, but only the Galaxy S2 has got the official ICS update and that too only across a few countries. What will happen to the ICS updates for the other phones? Lets hope Samsung releases it by April. Sony had mentioned earlier that they would launch the Sony ICS Update only in Q2 and they are right on time. In fact, the Q2 has not started and already they have confirmed through their Product Launch blog that the updates will start around April mid.
Sony ICS Update – The Timeline
The Blog clearly mentions that the first line of phones to get the Sony ICS Update will be the Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and the Xperia Ray. The first set will be seeing the update in the middle of April (no exact dates) and it was said that the updates would continue over a period of 6 weeks. The next series of phones will be Xperia Arc, Xperia Play, Xperia Neo, Xperia Mini, Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, Xperia Active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman. The second will begin to see the update by the end of May or in early June as Sony had promised. The updates will arrive in India on time because there are no carrier issues over here.
Sony ICS Update – How will it be?
Refurbished UI and a faster phone is what you get over the old Gingerbread platform in the new Sony ICS Update. Since the ICS update will completely change the internal working, the updates will not be OTA updates. You cannot update the phone over WiFi or 3G. Only with a PC/Mac, the Sony ICS Update will be possible.
