In a recent meeting that was held, Nokia made a shocking announcement. This time though, it is not about a new phone running the MeeGo OS or Windows Phone 7, but it is about the plans that the company has to bring back the times when Nokia was the leader of the smartphone industry.
Nokia Slashes Prices
The strategy they have adapted seems to be a very simple one – reduce the rates. That is what the Finnish giant is going to do. Their flagship model Nokia N8 will have a price reduction of 15% and that my help the sales of the phone. Not only that, but the other major phones like the Nokia C7 and Nokia E6 will also be seeing their prices fall by 15%. The price drop will be there for most of the phones, but the devices that will have bigger price reduction are the high end smartphones. This is termed as a business strategy, but we all know the mobile phone giant is trying to gain some customers at least now. The Finnish giant has lost most of the customers in the smartphone range and that is the reason that the company has seen a nearly 15% fall in the number of Nokia smartphone holders. Nokia had a share of 39% in the smartphone world at the start of the year, but now the share is 25%.
Nokia N9 Shock
If the above news was a shocking one, here is one that will make the people in US, UK and other European countries quite angry. In the same announcement, Nokia also declared that their new smartphone Nokia N9 will not be available in those countries and that has left most of them speechless.
