With the release of Samsung Galaxy S3 getting nearer, Samsung is announcing the technology that drives their “Next Galaxy” phone. Given the rumors, a quad core processor was expected in the Samsung Galaxy S3. It was also expected that Samsung will be using their own processor and that is exactly what they had done.
The Exynos 4 Quad packs four Cortex A9 cores and each of them can clock to 1.4GHz individually. The chip is based on Samsung’s 32nm fabrication process. The number of cores is twice the number in the Samsung Galaxy S2, but because of the 32nm fabrication, the new processor is even more efficient by 20%. The four cores are controlled by power grating method by varying the frequency and voltage. Thus the new cores are expected to be more power efficient.
The performance of the new QuadCore processor will be tested when Galaxy S3 will launch on May 3rd.
