Samsung Galaxy R ICS Update
You would have a great memory power if you remember the Galaxy R. The Galaxy R was released as a slightly stripped down version of the then flagship model, Galaxy S2. Just like Galaxy S2, the Galaxy R came with Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board. The Galaxy S2 got the official ICS update a long time back(nearly a year ago). The Galaxy R was one of those phones that we thought even Samsung had forgot about. But then came the ICS update for Galaxy R back in August in other countries. But the Samsung Galaxy R ICS Update has just arrived in India as a new year gift.
Samsung Galaxy R ICS Update – Features
The ICS update is a big update and it is available as both OTA(over the air) update as well as via Samsung Kies. The update size is nearly 240MB and it brings all the ICS goodness with it.
The new features, courtesy of the Samsung Galaxy R ICS Update, are

- Performance improvements
- Improved UI(hardly noticeable because of TouchWiz)
- Updated Widgets
- Better notifications
To update your Galaxy R to ICS, just go to Settings -> About Phone -> Software Update -> Update. (This will be OTA update, no need for PC).
If you wish to do it via PC, then you can connect your phone to the PC and update using Samsung Kies.
Samsung Galaxy R ICS Update – Poor timing
Samsung is a company known for its Android smartphones, but definitely not for its Android updates. Samsung hardly has people working on continuous updates for its Galaxy series of Android phones. The Galaxy R was released in October 2011, which was also the same month ICS was announced. Being a distant cousin of the flagship Galaxy S2, the Galaxy R had to get some respect, but it took Samsung nearly 14 months to bring ICS update for Galaxy R. The Samsung Galaxy S2 got the ICS update within 6 months. Nonetheless, folks would be happy that they finally have the Samsung Galaxy R ICS Update.
