Samsung Galaxy S2
Well, we all know how Samsung became one of the leaders of the smartphone industry with its flagship Galaxy model. A year after the Samsung Galaxy S was released, we now have the Samsung Galaxy S2 after a year. It made records by selling more than 3 million units in less than two months. The Samsung Galaxy S2 is truly the best smartphone that the world has seen so far. Only the Samsung Galaxy S2 can beat the Galaxy S and it does it in style.
Samsung Galaxy S2 – Design, Construction and Build
Making a smartphone is not easy and making a small and compact is not easy at all. The main thing that must have been in the mind of the designers of the Samsung Galaxy S2 is compactness and slimness. The greatest smartphone of all time is packed into one of the thinnest smartphone bodies. The dimensions of the phone are 125.3 x 66.1 x 8.5 mm and it is considerably very thin than the already thin Samsung Galaxy S. The weight of the phone however is in the same range as that of its predecessor and it is around 116grams.
The front of the Samsung Galaxy S2 has the earpiece on the top and there are a couple of sensors on its right side. The couple of sensors include the proximity sensor and the ambient sensor for automatic screen switch off and automatic brightness respectively. Then there is the front facing camera that has a 2MP resolution. Then below it is the amazing display and then there is a physical button on the center below the screen and there are a couple of touch sensitive keys on either side. The physical key is the menu button and the touch key on the right side is the options button and the one on the left is the back button. The right side of the Samsung Galaxy S2 has the volume rocker just like the Samsung Galaxy S. Then on the top is the alone 3.5mm jack. On the left side of the Samsung Galaxy S2 is the power lock button and the sides of the Samsung Galaxy S2 resemble the Galaxy S. The bottom of the Samsung Galaxy S2 is the uncovered mini USB port and a mouth piece to the side of it. The back of the Samsung Galaxy S2 has the 8MP camera along with the LED Flash. Unlike the Galaxy S, the back of the Samsung Galaxy S2 is a plain plastic back. Beneath the battery cover is the more powerful 1650mAh battery. The problem that the users will face is that the micro SD card slot is not hot swappable, but that is not something because the internal storage is already 16/32GB and that is more than enough. The battery of the phone is very impressive.
The build quality of the Samsung Galaxy S2 is one of the best in the business and that is what one expects from a phone that is priced around Rs30000. The overall build quality is great and holding the Samsung Galaxy S2 just feels great in the hand. Despite the big size of the phone, the phone is really a comfort to hold. Despite the smaller size, handling the phone is even better.
Samsung Galaxy S2 – Features and Specification
Being a beast of a Droid it is, the Samsung Galaxy S2 packs a powerhouse processor. The powerhouse processor that fuels the device is the 1.2 GHz dual-core Cortex-A9 CPU. Also there is a GPU on board that will enhance the graphics and the chip used is the Mali-400MP. The Processor and the GPU are used on the Exynos chipset. In addition to all these features, the Samsung Galaxy S2 is fueled by 1GB RAM. With all these processing powers, the Samsung Galaxy S2 definitely will overpower any other smartphone.
2. Super AMOLED Plus Display
The best thing about the Samsung Galaxy S2 that will keep the folks interested about the phone is its Super AMOLED Plus display. The Super AMOLED in the Galaxy S was already an eye catcher with a few problems and all the problems seem to have been set right in the Super AMOLED Plus screen. The screen resolution of the Samsung Galaxy S2 is same as that of its predecessor – WVGA ( 480 x 800 ). The flaw in case of the Super AMOLED screen is corrected because of the PenTile Matrix. The bottomline is that the best just got better.
One of the main reasons that make the Samsung Galaxy S2 the best smartphone is its Android OS. The Android OS has a wide range of apps and games to choose from. The new TouchWiz Launcher has just gotten better because of the effort that Samsung has put into developing it. The tweaks start from the lock screen itself and every aspect has been changed to make the device more user friendly. Overall, the UI just got better.
The main media thing that one needs in a smartphone is music. The music player is the standard TouchWiz Music Player and it does the job of organizing the music perfectly. The cover flow is missing, but selecting the song is not tough either because of the tabbed interface. The Samsung Galaxy S2 is equipped with a FM Radio along with RDS. The video player in the Samsung Galaxy S2 is rather much impressive than the regular smartphones. Practically, the default video player played any file that it was asked to. From .mkv to .mp4, the resolution was not a problem either. The image gallery is the same gallery that we see in most of the Android phones that we see today. It is the 3D vanilla gallery. The image management is quite impressive.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 is equipped with a couple of cameras. The one on the back is the main camera that is a 8MP one and the one on the front is the 2MP one. The maximum resolution of the images that can be captured is 3264 x 2448 pixels. The camera interface is very much similar to the other Samsung cameras with two sidebars on both side. There are quite of lot of options that one can check out. The image quality is exceptional with correct color and contrast and perfect detailing. Also the noise levels are quite less. The 8MP camera of the Samsung Galaxy S2 is capable of recording 1080 videos at 30fps and the videos are recorded in .mp4 format rather than .3gp format. The HD videos come out with true color and perfect details.
Being the best smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S2 has all the connectivity requirements. There is everything that one wants – Wi-Fi, HSDPA, GPS, Bluetooth and others. There is also the USB on the Go support that allows the users to read data from a USB device directly in the phone. The microUSB has many roles and one of them is a MHL. Once a MHL to HDMI is used, it can be used to direct the video output to any device with HDMI support. Another feature of the MHL port is the USB on the go support. The web browser of Samsung Galaxy S2 is surely one of the best so far. It has absolutely everything. Support for Flash is great and the Galaxy S2 plays 1080p HD videos with ease.
